Community Fences

With the help of local communities and KWS, over the past two decades the Trust has built two-strand solar fences along most of the western side of the mountain. This is to help protect community farms from being damaged.

The communities check and look after their own fences, but we employ two fencers to help take care of major repairs and maintenance issues, with the help of the Trust’s Field Coordinator and the KWS Fence Technician.

Now Rhino Ark have started construction of a fully game-proof fence around the entire boundary of Mount Kenya National Reserve. The Trust works closely with Rhino Ark to support them in their mission. Around one third of the boundary has been fenced so far.
